Op 5 mei 1955 wordt het portret ingehuldigd van luitenant-generaal Joseph Marie De Tilly, commandant van de Militaire School van 1889 tot 1899. Het portret is een gift van de Vereniging van Oud-leerlingen. Het kunstwerk is, zoals andere portretten van oud-commandanten, van de hand van Louis Buisseret (Binche, 1888 – Ukkel, 1956), kunstschilder, tekenaar, graveur, medestichter van de kunstenaarsgroep Nervia en directeur van de kunstacademie van Mons. Het portret bevindt zich in de "Galerij der Generaals" in blok B.
