The trainees of the 138th Division Senior Staff Training experienced an interesting educational trip to Vienna and Madrid during the third week of April, laced with instructive experiences and fascinating encounters.
Under the expert guidance of the defence attaché, Colonel Moerman, the United Nations was visited. Presentations by the Belgian embassy staff explained the operation and their contribution to the Belgian EU presidency in the process. Constructive interactions also followed with the Safeguards Technology Expert of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) responsible for Iran within its organisation.
The highlight was undoubtedly being able to experience in real life the animated debates during the FSC (Forum for Security Cooperation) plenary session within the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe), where the voices of the EU, Russia and Ukraine coloured the global security situation.
After an engaging time in Vienna, the company moved to Madrid, where the focus was on the organisation of OCCAR (Organization for Joint Armament Cooperation) and the unveiling of leading military projects, including the impressive A400M. At Airbus, the trainees were warmly welcomed and immersed in the world of military projects, with an exclusive look at the maintenance facilities of the A400M.
Another highlight was the visit to the breathtaking Ariane 6 missile production facilities, where the excitement was tangible with the planned launch later this year.
This five-day study tour was not only a learning experience, but also an inspiring adventure that broadened the trainees' horizons and gave them new perspectives on international cooperation and military innovation.
