Last weekend, the third and final SDIV weekend of this academic year took place at the RMA in Brussels. The focus this time was on repeating and honing first aid and TCCC techniques.
Friday evening some briefings were scheduled on how to draft a military mail and note, as well as tactics lessons for summer camps.
The next morning, students from the industrial engineering course and the Antwerp Maritime Academy started first aid lessons, more specifically a practical repetition of CPR. By repeating these techniques regularly, we ensure that all students are able to administer first aid immediately. In the afternoon, the students continued with some lessons on TCCC. This stands for 'Tactical Combat Casualty Care' and teaches us how to manage life-threatening injuries in a tactical setting.
For the medical and dental students, experience briefings were scheduled. This involved military personnel with a medical background talking about their experiences of being medical professionals in Defence.
On Sunday morning, the medical students continued with their briefings, while the industrial engineering and nautical science students paid an instructive visit to the Royal Military Museum in the Cinquantenaire Park. The weekend ended with sports and games in the afternoon.
